It’s Not About the Copious Fake Sex. Really.

Sunday, July 29th, 2007

CULVER CITY, Calif.

THE scene, being filmed on a stuffy and intermittently noisy soundstage, involved lots of talking and lots of groping, as many of them do on the new, soon-to-be-controversial Showtime series “Californication.”

David Duchovny, as the occasionally unpleasant antihero of the show, a creatively blocked novelist named Hank Moody, was fully committed to the moment in spite of a real-life cold and a lozenge-coated throat. He and Amy Price-Francis, playing one of the many wrong-for-him sexual diversions who populate the story lines, were going at it in a full-on lip-locking kitchen-sink clinch.

“I love women,” Mr. Duchovny’s congenitally flippant character said after being accused of just using female partners to distract himself from his continuing writer’s block. “I have all their albums.”

“Cut,” said the director, Bart Freundlich, one of Mr. Duchovny’s closest friends, instructing the couple to disengage and start over. “There was a shadow on her head.”

Thursday, June 28th, 2007

SPECIAL needs teacher Jane Longhurst confessed to colleagues she let her boyfriend suffocate her during sex, years before she was killed by bondage-obsessed Graham Coutts, it is alleged.

Guitarist Coutts, 39, admits throttling the Reading-born teacher in 2003 but denies murder, claiming the death was an accident after a sex game went too far.

Former colleague Ruth Sinclair, who taught with Jane at Netherhall School in Cambridge, told an Old Bailey jury of hearing revelations about her friend’s sex life.

Miss Sinclair alleged Jane made a giggling confession about her boyfriend, a man called Lincoln, during a staff room chat in 1996.

Sex isn’t an occasion for arrest: woman won $29,000 for topless walk

Tuesday, June 19th, 2007

NEW YORK –

A woman arrested for exposing her breasts has accepted a $29,000 settlement from the city, her lawyer said.

Jill Coccaro, 27, was arrested on a topless stroll two years ago, despite a 1992 state appeals court ruling that concluded women should have the same right as men to take off their shirts.

Coccaro, who now goes by the name Phoenix Feeley, remained in custody for 12 hours before she was told prosecutors were not going to pursue charges.

Her attorney, Jeffrey Rothman, told the Daily News that his client won the civil rights settlement from the city, which did not admit or deny wrongdoing.

“We hope the police learn a lesson and respect the rights of women to go topless,” Rothman said.

Feeley told the New York Post that she was not treated well after her Aug. 4, 2005, arrest in Manhattan’s Lower East Side section. She claimed in an October lawsuit that a police officer yanked her out of a patrol car by her hair and police took her to a hospital for a psychiatric evaluation.

She told the newspaper she had gone bare-breasted after running the 2004 city marathon without police bothering her.

Paris Hilton’s L.A. Times Article

Friday, June 15th, 2007

Paris Hilton will end up serving more time behind bars than the vast majority of inmates sent to L.A. County Jail for similar offenses, according to a Times analysis of jail records. Whether Hilton received special treatment from the Sheriff’s Department has become the subject of much debate since Sheriff Lee Baca last week allowed the hotel heiress to go home after less than four full days in jail, despite a promise that she would serve 23 days of a 45-day sentence.

The Times analyzed 2 million jail releases and found 1,500 cases since July 2002 that — like Hilton’s — involved defendants who had been arrested for drunk driving and later sentenced to jail after a probation violation or driving without a license.
